Stony Brook Southampton Hospital (SBSH) Receives Advanced Spirometer Thanks to Generous Donation
Stony Brook Southampton Hospital has recently acquired the EasyOne® Air Spirometer, a crucial tool for evaluating lung function, thanks to the generosity of Kevin Welch from MedTech/MedCare, LLC (MTMC).
During a meeting with Jeff Russell, Director of Respiratory Care, Welch learned that the hospital could greatly benefit from an updated spirometer to enhance patient care. Motivated to make a difference, he reached out to ndd Medical Technologies, the manufacturer of the device, to facilitate the donation. “I felt that I wanted to do something to help the community and these patients that are struggling,” said Welch.
With the EasyOne® Air Spirometer now in use, the hospital’s Respiratory Care team can perform lung function tests right at the patient’s bedside, providing convenient, timely, and accurate assessments.
“The device provides accurate measurements of respiratory parameters such as forced vital capacity and forced expiratory volume,” explained Sara Pham, Lead Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) at SBSH. “Kevin Welch’s contribution not only supports our commitment to delivering high-quality healthcare but also underscores the importance of collaboration between healthcare organizations and the community in fostering better health outcomes for patients” Pham explained.
The spirometer’s portability and user-friendly design make it an ideal solution for both clinical settings and home monitoring, empowering healthcare providers to diagnose and manage respiratory conditions with greater efficiency and effectiveness.
